Darlene counsels clients on public law issues with additional emphasis on government relations and legislation, real estate and land-use law. She also provides advice in nontraditional real estate financing, public policy development, civil rights and workers� compensation. Darlene�s extensive experience has brought her before legislative and administrative branches of state and local governments in matters related to public private partnerships, complex legislation and legislative solutions, zoning, health code violations, building code issues, utility issues, public transportation, economic development agreements, multi tiered intra governmental financing and brownfield redevelopment. Darlene has counseled management involved in employment discrimination claims and workers� compensation issues. Darlene�s background also includes public and private financing for business enterprises, appearances before administrative bodies, arbitration and municipal court proceedings, and land use. Darlene is a member and former trustee of the Cleveland Bar Association. She is an active member of the Kent State University Foundation, Free Clinic Board of Trustees and board of the Cleveland Zoological Society. She also serves on the board of United Way Services of Greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga County Public Library. Darlene has served as the Cleveland regional director and executive secretary of the Industrial Commission of Ohio, the director of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission and the executive assistant for policy in Cleveland�s Office of the Mayor. She was the chief of staff to Cleveland Mayor Michael R. White before joining Calfee as a partner in 1993. |
