Doug Appleton is Vice President, Legal, responsible for all Shutterfly legal affairs, including commercial contract negotiation, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, corporate governance and securities compliance.
Prior to joining Shutterfly, Doug became the first general counsel of MarketWatch, Inc, a leading public online media and financial data company, in 2003. Doug was the lead member of an active mergers and acquisitions team that achieved a highly successful exit for stockholders following the $528 million sale of MarketWatch to Dow Jones & Company in January 2005.
Prior to joining Marketwatch, Inc., Doug was the associate general counsel of Handspring, Inc., an innovator and manufacturer of handheld computer and wireless communicator products, and as general counsel for SecuGen Corporation, a privately-held technology company that manufactures and develops fingerprint biometric devices.
Doug has also been a corporate lawyer with several leading law firms, including Morrison & Foerster in Palo Alto, California. Doug earned his JD from the University of Maryland School of Law and his BA in Organizational Behavior and Management from Brown University.
In his free time, Doug uses his Nikon CoolPix 7600 camera to snap pictures of his wife and four children. He also is active in coaching and playing lacrosse, including coaching his three boys� youth teams in San Carlos, CA, and competing on local, national and international elite and masters level lacrosse teams. |
