Karla L. Palmer is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm�s Washington, D.C. office. As a member of the Trial Department, Karla�s practice has involved a variety of civil and administrative litigation matters.
Since joining the firm in 1993, Karla has acted as trial counsel on behalf of the Firm�s clients in federal and state courts throughout the country including Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Kansas, District of Columbia and Virginia. Her practice focuses on all aspects of commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on business torts and commercial contract disputes.
Karla also has extensive experience representing the Firm�s energy trading clients in administrative litigation before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and in federal and state court proceedings involving energy trading relationships and other contract disputes.
After law school, Karla completed a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Claude M. Hilton, who was formerly the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division. She has been lead counsel on matters litigated in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and regularly practices in that forum.
Karla is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia Bars. She is admitted to practice before United States Court of Federal Claims, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
While in law school, Karla was associate editor of The University of Richmond Law Review, a member of the McNeill Law Honor Society and a legal writing teaching assistant.
