Dr. Walter H. Ku, Ph.D., 71, has served as a Member of Valassis� Board of Directors since February 2003 where he is a Corporate Governance/Nominating Committee Member. Dr. Ku is an internationally known scientist in the field of electronic systems and systems controls. He is professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and is the founding director of the National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center on Ultra High-Speed Integrated Circuits and Systems. Dr. Ku also consults and teaches in China and Taiwan. Dr. Ku is a member of the IEEE MTT (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Microwave Theory and Techniques) Editorial Board and the Associate Editor of the Journal of the Franklin Institute. His credentials include a bibliography of over 200 publications and he holds several patents. His extensive consulting experiences at TRW, Honeywell, Atlantic Research, COMSAT Lab., Rockwell Science Center, Titan, Cubic, ISL and Qualcomm as well as his internationally recognized expertise have assisted businesses with developing high-level international relationships and opportunities. He was a full professor at Cornell University and the first occupant of the Naval Electronic Systems Command Research Chair Professorship at the Naval Post-Graduate School. Dr. Ku was with the GT&E Sylvania Applied Research Laboratory of Waltham, Mass. where he worked successively from an Engineering Specialist role to Principal Investigator of a number of agency-funded contracts including a number of Air Force, NASA and NSA contracts. Dr. Ku earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master�s of Science and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Dr Ku�s father is revered in China and considered one of the greatest scholars in Chinese history. The Valassis Board of Directors has valued Dr. Ku�s perspective on China as the company grows its business there. In addition, he is sound advisor to the Board in the areas of technology and the management of complex systems. |
